Letter from the President:
My name is Kim Kingsland and I own I Need A Sitter, LLC. I have a Master in Occupational Therapy and also owned an interior decorating business previously specializing in contemporary design providing service to clients in California and Ohio.
Without family in nearby and sitters periodically available, finding a sitter without continuously imposing on friends and not being able to count on wonderful, but not always available, neighborhood kids, finding someone I could trust to watch my children became well beyond an issue.
Over the years, I found other moms continuously calling me for reliable sitters I might know as they had the same issues I had being where do you find experienced, reliable, and trustworthy sitters. I’ve also had families of clients ask for sitters for their elderly parent, adult children, and for themselves, should a medical need or physical mishap arise and they find themselves temporarily unable to care for themselves or their family. After much contemplation, extensive research, and the obvious staring me in the face, I Need A Sitter was born.
Whether you’re new to the area, can’t always impose on family and friends or have grown weary of the limited supply of neighborhood sitters, I Need A Sitter matches an experienced and qualified sitter with your family’s needs.
Our sitters are responsible adults over the age of 18 who have undergone an extensive background check through both law enforcement resources as well as the state’s most prestigious corporate investigation firm, which happens to be owned by my husband (www.brucekingsland.com).
After extensive research, my husband noted that every sitting service simply has applicants fingerprinted by local law enforcement, the prints of which are run through BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) and that BCI merely collects data from county courts pertaining to convictions.
While it is one of our screening steps, if you’re from the Columbus area, you may remember the public school bus drivers’ incident where their backgrounds were checked through this common fingerprinting method. Additional and subsequent research showed many of the drivers that were cleared by BCI actually had criminal records that weren’t identified through the fingerprinting system other sitters use.
Further, BCI only reports criminal convictions, not criminal charges, that may have been significantly reduced, or dropped, for cooperation in other matters. Finally, other services only check criminal records in Ohio and never check out of state filings.
There may be services that claim to run “Nationwide Criminal” searches, as my husband can explain, there’s no such thing as a comprehensive Nationwide Criminal Search unless you’re law enforcement with access to a system other than BCI.
That’s why I Need A Sitter uses my husband’s firm that knows how to find not only convictions state records may not reveal, but charges of a significant nature that may have been reduced, or dropped, on technicalities and/or plea agreements.
We also check for civil suit filings on each applicant, contact all references, and review the applicant’s driver’s record to identify any citations for reckless driving, speeding, and OMVI’s, which by the way, won’t appear in a standard criminal check.
As an additional layer of protection, my husband’s firm also runs national databases the general public does not have access to which identifies where someone has been over the last 10-15 years and check those geographical areas for civil and criminal issues. In and out of state sex offender databases are of course also examined.
The bottom line is no one screens sitters more intensely as we do as it’s very expensive to conduct in-depth background searches and not cost effective for other sitter services to do so. Fortunately for me, and our clients, I happen to have a connection.
When you need a local, family owned sitting service with the most intensive screening process in the country, I honestly believe I Need A Sitter is the most logical, trustworthy, and safest, choice.
